Lorde Releases A New Song Titled 'Liability'

Lorde has dropped the second track from her forthcoming sophomore album Melodrama. The song is called ‘Liability’ and is said to be “a new chapter of the story” told on the album. The track is a follow-up to her comeback single ‘Green Light’, released last week. Both tracks were co-produced with Jack Antonoff of the band fun.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Lorde said the song was inspired by a moment she had listening to Rihanna’s ‘Higher’ alone in a cab. She said “I love the song so much and it feels so starkly truthful to me… at some point with everyone it’s going to be this way.” The singer-songwriter also posted some lyrics from ‘Liability’ yesterday, reading “Get you wild, make you leave”.

The track is on the shorter side, clocking in at just under 3 minutes, but it doesn’t take very long for it to make an impact. The piano ballad exhibits Lorde’s emotional side as she sings about feeling like a liability to the people in her life. Take a listen below:

Lorde also revealed an official release date for Melodrama– June 16th. It has been a long wait for new music from Lorde, since her debut album Pure Heroine did extremely well when it was released in 2013. We can’t wait to hear more of her new sound and see the direction that the rest of Melodrama will take.

‘Liability’ is available to stream on Spotify now.
